Bitmovin Streams Origin Streaming – Discontinuation Notice
Effective Date: June 30, 2025 – 23:59 UTC
Service Impacted: Bitmovin Streams Origin Streaming
Overview
As previously announced, the Bitmovin Streams Origin Streaming service will be discontinued on June 30, 2025 at 23:59 UTC. This change affects all customers who used the Origin Streaming service as part of the Streams Migration from Azure Media Services (AMS), which was provided temporarily to minimize disruption after Microsoft's shutdown of AMS.
To avoid service interruptions, please migrate your video streaming workflow to one of the following supported alternatives.
Recommended Migration Options
Option 1: Bitmovin Streams
Bitmovin Streams is an end-to-end video streaming service hosted on Microsoft Azure that allows you to upload and host content, encode on-demand video, and stream it globally across any device in the highest quality while monitoring it with in-depth Analytics. Bitmovin Streams outputs statically packaged DASH and HLS content to Azure storage for delivery using the Azure CDN, both managed by Bitmovin. For more information see the Product Documentation.
Option 2: Bitmovin VOD Encoding
Bitmovin VOD Encoding is a file-based transcoding service hosted on Microsoft Azure that lets you process video for streaming on-demand content. The outputs are statically packaged and transferred to your desired output storage (origin). You would need to configure and specify your own origin, such as Azure Blob Storage (see supported storage options) and point your own CDN to that origin for delivery to viewers. For more information see the Product Documentation.
Option 3: Bitmovin Live Encoding
Bitmovin Live Encoding is a live transcoding solution hosted on Microsoft Azure that lets you process and stream live video content. The outputs are dynamically packaged and transferred to your desired output storage (origin). You would need to configure and specify your own origin and CDN just like with Bitmovin Live Encoding. For more information see the Product Documentation.
Option 4: Zype
Zype is a cloud-based Online Video Platform (OVP) that provides a comprehensive end-to-end service for ingesting, managing, and distributing both live and on-demand video content, including a comprehensive set of content management, playout, monetization, and app publishing tools.
