Bitmovin Data Retention Policy for Encodings
This page describes the retention policy for encoding-related data across Bitmovin products, including Video-on-Demand (VOD) and Live encodings.
Retention Period
Bitmovin retains encoding data for a maximum of 90 days from the time the encoding job is completed. After this period, the following data is permanently deleted:
- Encoding metadata
- Encoding logs
Reason for the 90-Day Limit
Limiting data availability to 90 days improves system performance and operational efficiency:
- Faster encoding queue scheduling
- Reduced system load
- Improved reliability and scalability
- Reduced API latency
Customer Responsibilities
If you require access to encoding metadata for more than 90 days, you must export and store this data in your own infrastructure.
Bitmovin recommends the following:
- Retrieve encoding data.
- Adjust post-processing workflows to take place within the 90-day window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request access to data older than 90 days?
No. Data beyond 90 days is permanently deleted and cannot be restored. There is no backup or archival service currently available for historical encoding data.
Can I extend the retention period for my organization?
Bitmovin does not currently support organization-specific retention overrides. This might be introduced in the future as a paid feature based on customer interest.
What if I receive new audio or subtitle tracks after 90 days?
In such cases, we recommend re-encoding the original assets to generate updated outputs and manifests.
